What is the Society of the Spectacle?
We live in a fast-paced, media-dominated and “spectacularized” society in which the constant bombardment with an abundance of stimuli is a fact of life. For the many of us who become lost and confused in the jumble of information, it is easy to become trapped in a state of numbed passivity. Our goal at SOS clothing is to promote dialogue and thoughtful questioning regarding important social issues through the medium of art and fashion. We believe it is important to be informed citizens and active participants in our world. It is our duty to look closely at important social issues around the world, which although seemingly far-removed from our lives, truly affect us as global citizens of the world in which we share. We believe in the ability to renegotiate how information and knowledge is disseminated and that fashion as an art form can be a powerful medium with which to empower individuals.
What is Society of the Spectacle Clothing?
S.O.S. is a new line of socially responsible, casual-luxury apparel designed for fashion savvy individuals who desire expression of personal socio-political values reflecting socially concerned consumption. Our mission is to define and lead the production of men's and women's casual wear that are made without harm to the environment while also satisfying the customers need for products with superior artistic design, luxury quality, and thought provoking messaging about each consumer's ability to create a socially responsible society. It is a holistic approach to fashion and social consciousness in that S.O.S. apparel is not only produced with the environment and working conditions of others in mind but the article itself is a vehicle for discussion and inspiration.
How it all began.
S.O.S. was founded by siblings Namanh and Julianne Hoang who wanted to develop a clothing brand that is luxurious, stylish and incorporates social themes through its artistic designs and messaging. Combining Julianne’s fashion sense and Namanh’s design and business skills, the two created the Society of the Spectacle brand with the intent of producing products designed to propagating social awareness through its usage. A majority of Society of the Spectacle’s products are made from eco-friendly premium fabrics, comfortable for everyday wear, stylish, fashionable and reflects current social issues through designs and messaging.
Nam Hoang | President
The President and founder, Namanh V. Hoang, has over 10 years of experience in business management, marketing, and high-level sales. He earned his Bachelors of Arts in Sociology at the University of California in Irvine and graduated with the highest honors including Order of the Merit and Departmental Honors. Nam Hoang was previously the creative director for Crisp Brand Agency and lead designer for Rare Medium Inc. As creative director for Crisp, Nam heavily involved in the strategy for their apparel client G8 that was launched in June of 2007 and is currently receiving tremendous press and industry recognition.
Julianne Hoang | Vice-President
The Vice President and co-founder Julianne M. Hoang, has many years of experience in apparel retail service and 5 years of active participation in the luxury fashion community. Additionally she has keen insight to the industries trends.
